Alicia Silverstone (born October 4, 1976) is an American actress who played the role of Susan Heffley in the film adaptation of The Long Haul, succeeding Rachael Harris, who had played the role in the previous three films.
Throughout her career, Silverstone has won fifteen awards for her acting in television and film and been nominated for seventeen more. She is also noted for her starring roles as Cher Horowitz in the critically acclaimed film Clueless and as Batgirl in the superhero movie Batman & Robin.
Background[]
The youngest of three children, Alicia is the daughter of Didi Radford, a former flight attendant, and Monty Silverstone, a real estate investor. Her English-born father is from a Jewish family, while her Scottish-born mother converted to Judaism. Silverstone began modeling when she was six, after her father took some photos of her, which eventually led to her being cast in several television commercials. She attended Crocker Middle School and then San Mateo High School.
After a guest spot on The Wonder Years (1988) as a literal "dream girl", she landed a role in The Crush (1993), in which she portrayed a disturbed young girl obsessed with an older man. She won the 1994 MTV Movie Award for "Best Villain" and "Breakthrough Performance" for the role. In addition, the film caught the attention of television director Marty Callner, who hired her to appear in a string of music videos for the rock band Aerosmith. The first of them, "Cryin'", was voted the #1 video of all time on MTV.
After this, she was cast in the coming-of-age comedy Clueless, which became a critical hit during the summer of 1995. She signed a deal with Columbia TriStar worth between $8 and $10 million dollars and got the coveted role of Batgirl in the Batman franchise. Also, as part of the package, she received a three-year first-look deal for her own production company, First Kiss Productions.
Alicia would go on to star in several other movies in the coming years, including Batman & Robin (1997), which received polarizing reviews and is considered to be one of the worst films of all time. During the 2000s, Silverstone stepped aside from the spotlight and opted to focus on smaller-scale films and theater, starring in numerous films and television shows, such as Braceface, Beauty Shop, and Miss Match. This trend continued into the 2010s, during which she landed the role of Susan Heffley. She has continued to act in film and television and on stage.
Personal Life[]
Silverstone has two older siblings, a half-sister from her father's previous marriage, Kezi Silverstone; and a brother, David Silverstone.
She married her longtime boyfriend, rock musician Christopher Jarecki, in a beachfront ceremony at Lake Tahoe on June 11, 2005. After meeting outside a movie theater in 1997, the couple dated for eight years prior to their marriage. They got engaged about a year before their marriage, and Jarecki presented Silverstone with an engagement ring that had belonged to his grandmother.
They lived in an eco-friendly Los Angeles house, complete with solar panels and an organic vegetable garden. Silverstone bought the house, shared with a "menagerie of rescued dogs", in 1996.
On May 5, 2011, Silverstone gave birth to a son. In March 2012, she received media attention for uploading a video of herself feeding chewed food to her son from her own mouth.
Jarecki and Silverstone separated in February 2018. In May 2018, she filed for divorce. In November 2018, the divorce was finalized.

- A practicing vegan, Alicia Silverstone is noted for being an animal rights and environmental activist. She has endorsed PETA activities and has published two cookbooks: The Kind Diet (2009) and The Kind Mama (2014).
- She has been criticized due to her anti-vaccine stance, promotion of pseudoscientific diet and lifestyle choices, and her hyperbolic claims regarding the medical and spiritual benefits of veganism.
- In 2009, Silverstone was awarded a Heart Of Green Award, which "recognizes individuals, organizations or companies who have helped green go mainstream." In 2010, she was awarded a Voice Of Compassion Award by the Physician's Committee For Responsible Medicine for "shining a spotlight on the powerful health benefits of a vegan diet."
